Malecón Dans

Malecón is the dance department of the Malecón – The Cuban Cultural Center.

Malecón started in 2002, was established in 2005, and combines dance, language, and travel. With us, you can participate in Cuban dance classes here in Norway and Cuba or combine them with Spanish courses and Spanish studies. Malecón delivers a solid course experience while at the same time allowing course participants to experience something new, different, exciting, and knowledgeable. We have also set a limit of a maximum of 20 student places in each lesson. This is so that all students receive equal follow-up from the instructor so that everyone will benefit equally from the courses.

Malecón Dance - Concept

Dance is an essential expression in all cultures and parts of the World. It is a form of communication that connects people, a great social activity that provides energy, and spreads joy and laughter!

The course participants will get an introduction and improve their skills in the most characteristic of Cuban Dance, namely steps, figures, and styles of one or more popular Cuban Dances.

Examples include Cuban SALSA (Casino), Son, Danzón, Cha – Cha – Chá, Mambo, and Rumba.

The Cuban Salsa style, in particular, has increased in popularity – a manner Cubans press to the chest – a tradition and a life friend.

Background on The Origin of The Name

Cuban singer and musician Isaac Delgado wrote this in a song about the malecón sea promenade Havana. He lives in Spain, and one of his records is called Malecón. It’s obvious Delgado carries Malecón with him in his new homeland. Such promenade strips can be found in all coastal towns. That’s until the Malecón Cubans go to draw air in the evenings or to throw out the fishing rod and maybe pull up a dorado. You go to the Malecón to chat with friends, have a glass of rum, dance, read a book, or maybe swarm with someone you love. You can look towards the Caribbean and the whole World from this spot. And like Isaac Delgado, you’ll always yearn back here. Malecón is a social meeting place for communication, dance, and music, which, most of all, is Cuba. We want to give the language and culture school students a sense of Malecón and therefore took this name. Malecón offers the following services for private individuals and businesses:
